But before Airola became one of the most picturesque wedding venues in Northern California, it began with a simple letter. Thirty years ago in Vienna, a serendipitous exchange of handwritten notes between George in California and Birgit in Austria sparked a love story that would cross continents and decades. From pen pals to soulmates, their journey led them to build a life—and eventually, this vineyard—rooted in love, faith, and a shared dream.
30 Years & Counting
On their 25th anniversary, the couple visited Napa.
Birgit recalled her youth in Austria surrounded by lush vineyards, and the two of them reminisced about their wedding in Vienna and how they fell in love writing letters to one another from across the world.
This little trip rekindled their young love and the pair decided to renew their vows although this time, George included a new promise… that one day he would find a Vineyard home to share with his bride.
My Promise to You
A few years later that promise would unfold as George found the property he dreamt of in our little Gold Country, and as fate would have it once again… it was for sale!
George and Birgit purchased the property (once known to locals as Villa Vallecito), and Airola Road Vineyards was born.
